Ol’ Vagabond

“There was tapping at the window while the clock struck 2 am
The Cat opened an eye, idly shifted his ears, and observed
It was same ol’ vagabond, the Rain, asking to be let in,
As dreams within dreams tiptoed above the bed and swirled
The Mouse in the cage continued to munch in peace
Mr Cat licked a lazy paw and went back to sleep
Not a wink or a blink was contributed by the two-legged sleepers
Other than, perhaps, a silent nudge by subconscious-deep.”
